Colin Prescot and Andy Elson set a new hot air balloon endurance record when they had been aloft for 233 hours and 55 minutes.

The two were in the process of trying to circumnavigate the Earth.

Earthquake measuring 8.8 magnitude strikes Chile

This was one of the strongest earthquakes ever recorded. The quake killed 600 people, injured many more and left more than two million people homeless.

The earthquake also set off Tsunami warnings for 53 countries ranging from the United States to Japan.
