<p>Fort Riley welcomed new soldiers Wednesday with a Victory Reception Company patching ceremony and a &#x201C;welcome run&#x201D; through historic sites. The VRC serves as a dedicated in-processing and reception unit for the division.</p>
<p>Army officials said the 3-mile run serves as a traditional morning formation to build camaraderie, teach unit history, and set physical readiness standards from day one. The route guides in-processing soldiers through Fort Riley to teach them about the 1st Infantry Division&#8217;s heritage.</p>

<p>Following the run, senior leaders placed the &#8220;Big Red One&#8221; patch on the incoming soldiers&#8217; uniforms, formally welcoming the soldiers to the division.</p>

<p>A Riley County District Court judge on Wednesday sentenced a Texas man to over 14 years in prison after he was convicted by a jury in March of distributing drugs.</p>
<p>Jose Miguel Rivera, 33, will serve 14 years 2 months in the Kansas Department of Corrections for distributing at least 1 kilogram of cocaine. Rivera was also sentenced to four years one month for&#xA0;distribution of between 100 grams and 1 kilogram of psilocybin &#x2014; also known as mushrooms &#x2014; and eight months for using a cell phone to distribute controlled substances.</p>

<p>Judge Grant Bannister ordered Rivera&#8217;s sentences to be served concurrently and gave him credit for 62 days he&#8217;s already served in jail.</p>

<p data-start="75" data-end="260">A Fort Riley man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after four young children were reportedly left unattended in a hot vehicle in Manhattan, according to the Riley County Police Department.</p>
<p data-start="262" data-end="410">Officers filed a report at approximately 11:26 a.m. May 27 in the 100 block of Bluemont Avenue for four counts of aggravated endangering of a child.</p>
<p data-start="412" data-end="620">Listed victims included a 4-year-old girl, a 5-year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl and an 11-month-old boy. Police said the children were allegedly left unattended in a hot vehicle for an extended period of time.</p>
<p data-start="622" data-end="756">Regobert Yuh Manigha, 36, of Fort Riley, was arrested at approximately 12:35 p.m. on four counts of aggravated endangering of a child.</p>
<p data-start="758" data-end="850" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Manigha was transferred to the Pottawatomie County Jail pending judicial review of the case.</p>

<p data-start="406" data-end="512">A 30-year-old woman was listed as the victim, while a known 37-year-old man was identified as the suspect.</p>
<p data-start="514" data-end="825">Nicholas Llewellen Hawes, 37, of St. George, was arrested at approximately 1:45 p.m. May 27 at the Riley County Law Enforcement Center, on four counts of stalking, two counts of harassment by telecommunications device and two counts of criminal trespass.</p>
<p data-start="827" data-end="941" data-is-last-node="" data-is-only-node="">Hawes was issued a total bond of $30,000 and remains confined in the Riley County Jail at the time of this report.</p>

<p data-start="239" data-end="343">Officers filed a report at approximately 4:02 p.m. May 27, 2026, in the 700 block of East Poyntz Avenue.</p>
<p data-start="345" data-end="476">Hutton Corp. was listed as the victim after it was reported an unknown suspect drove through a freshly poured concrete parking lot.</p>
<p data-start="478" data-end="539">The total estimated loss associated with the case is $15,000.</p>

<p>During the ceremony, organizers presented flowers to Klein&#x2019;s wife, Andrea Klein, and Culler&#x2019;s wife, Amy Culler. Army officials said the gesture recognizes the vital support and sacrifice of military families during unit leadership transitions.</p>

<p>A job listing for general manager of the restaurant lists its future location as 214 Leavenworth St. &#x2014; the former location of Taco John&#x2019;s, which closed Feb. 23.</p>

<p>The chain also announced a location coming to the east side of Wichita at 2692 N Greenwich Road in the Greenwich Place shopping center, with an anticipated opening in August 2026. Additional restaurants are planned in Lawrence, Topeka and west Wichita, with openings expected throughout 2026.</p>

<p>Brittanie Michelle Vaughn, 31, pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to distributing between 3.5 and 100 grams of methamphetamine, two counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of aggravated child endangerment by exposure to the sale of meth and possession of marijuana. The charges are all alleged to have happened on May 8, 2025.</p>
<p>Two children born in 2020 and 2021 were listed as victims.</p>
