Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday morning.

This is the one where we lose an hour. Because Ben Franklin hated us, or something.

Live Science has a good rundown of why we do this to ourselves twice a year, but basically, Franklin came up with this hair-brained idea to “conserve energy” back in the 1780s. Even still, no one officially adopted it until 1916, when the Germans did it in World War I. The United States adopted it in 1918.

Here’s a fun fact: less than 40 percent of the world’s countries observe this ridiculousness.

Anyway, don’t forget to jump your microwave and stove clocks ahead an hour on Sunday morning.
