You truly never really know what previous owners have done to a home until you start renovations and find the weird stuff.

Like, for instance, a GIANT MONOPOLY BOARD PAINTED ONTO THE FLOOR.

This story comes from Reddit earlier this week. The poster explained their in-laws ripped up their carpet and found…well, this.

So, so many questions. We’ll rattle off some.

  1. Why?
  2. Where are the Community Chest cards?
  3. If you land on “Jail” do the actual police show up?
  4. Does someone show up with a giant cardboard check when you pass “Go”?
  5. Do you use an actual iron for the board piece?
  6. That’s going to be a huge thimble. That’s not a question, just an observation.
  7. This is kind of a dark space. Are there no windows?
  8. What does the rent for this place pull down?
  9. What are the neighbors like?
  10. Is it near any schools?

Needless to say, there are theories from the Redditers as to our first question. The most logical is that it was part of a trend in the 1950s that saw people paint or tile board games into their floor. My theory: small giants that liked Monopoly.

We also now want to do a giant Candy Land, complete with the actual places on the board. Can you imagine a genuine Gloppy pit?
