Our Hometown Hero Week 4 is: Tom Tavtigian!

Tom was nominated by his daughter, Courtney.

Tom is a veteran of over 20 years and has chosen to spend his retirement giving back to the veterans in our community as well as veterans throughout the Midwest.

Tom started Wounded Warriors United back in 2014, a 501 C non profit for veterans. Tom struggled with ptsd after his tour in Iraq where he nearly lost his life and was unable to continue his military career after that. He now takes veterans and active duty services members hunting, fishing, and anything outdoors.

Tom also has helped veterans on their home repairs because part of his career was also spent as a licensed contractor. Tom is continuously giving back to the veteran community by sending veterans on hunting events but also joining them and building friendships.

Tom found it very hard to adjust after his long army career and found it therapeutic to be outdoors. Tom is a very generous neighbor in our community, he’s constantly helping people in his neighborhood when needed, he’s helped strangers on the road change a flat tire, and even recently he helped a stranger pay for the groceries when they couldn’t. Tom never expects anything in return but he constantly is a helping hand to anyone around him who may need it.

He is one of the most selfless men I’ve ever had the pleasure of knowing and he has taught me how important it is to give to others and be thankful for everyday we are given just by the grace of God. Tom is the proudest Papa of Wyatt and Brooklyn and I am very proud to call him my Dad.

Tom receives tickets to K-State football, plus a free oil change from Kia of Manhattan, a $50 gift card to RC McGraws, and a Hometown Heroes T-Shirt! John is also qualified to win the grand prize from Robert’s Heating and Cooling: a full Furnace and AC replacement!

We will announce the winner of the Furnace/AC replacement on Veteran’s Day!

Nominate a veteran you believe needs the recognition here!
