Apparently, the correct answer is not “All of the cups of coffee.”

SCIENCE! has calculated the “sweet spot” for the number of cups one should have in a day to get the most out of your cup of java.

According to the study from the University of Minho in Portugal, coffee drinkers should go for about 3-5 cups a day. Those that drink that much were found to be more alert have better memory and learning abilities.

“This is the first time that the effect that drinking coffee regularly has on our brain network is studied with this level of detail,” says Professor Nuno Sousa in a university release. “We were able to observe the effect of coffee on the structure and functional connectivity of our brain, as well as the differences between those who drink coffee regularly and those who do not drink coffee in real time.”

By the way, prior studies show that the world drinks THREE BILLION cups of coffee each day! We’re pretty sure our boss accounts for a least a million of those.
