You might be aware that Jelly Roll wasn’t always the soft, cuddly, law-abiding guy we all know and love. In fact, in his younger days he was a bit of a trouble-maker. He even did time in jail.
But now, thanks to the governor of Tennessee, he might get a full pardon!
Jelly Roll (real name Jason DeFord) was convicted of a aggravated assault and drug crimes, and served his sentence in prison. But because those convictions remain on his record, he has issues travelling abroad some times. A year ago, he wrote a letter to Governor Bill Lee asking for help. The governor intervened and recommended to the board that he be given a full pardon. And yesterday, the board did just that.
At the hearing, Jelly said “I want to be an inspiration for people who are now where I used to be…to let them know that change is truly possible.”
All that’s left is for the governor to sign off on the pardon. That would seem to be just a formality.
