Almost any artist will tell you that the most enjoyable part of their career is getting on stage and performing for a live audience. Usually.

During a recent visit to his wife’s “Dumb Blonde” podcast, Jelly Roll admitted to some health issues, the first of which struck right before the tour opener in Salt Lake City back in August. He was experiencing pain and wasn’t able to eat, which sent him to the hospital. The issue nearly forced him to cancel the first five shows of the run.

Later on during the tour, he also underwent a root canal procedure which led to an infection in his jaw. According to his wife Bunnie XO, he had the surgery then left the oral surgeon and went straight to the venue and performed while still under the effects of the novocaine. “My mouth was still numb. I did the first three songs feeling like I had slobber coming off my face”, said the singer.

He also said that between the two issues, he was on pain-killers and antibiotics for about 75% of the shows.

The “Beautifully Broken” tour resumes February 25th in Scottsdale, Arizona.
