Prom has always been a fairly expensive night . . . you have to pay for a tux or a dress, a limo, tickets, flowers, food, and whatever your friend’s sketchy 21-year-old brother is demanding for a four-pack of wine coolers.
But now it’s jumped from “fairly expensive” to “second mortgage.”
A new survey by Visa found the average kid will spend $919 on prom this year! That includes all the usual basics, but now there’s a new wrinkle . . . those over-the-top prom proposals that kids today just love.
Those add $324 to the cost . . . which is more than a third of the total!
Even Visa thinks that’s ridiculous . . . a company that only exists to make it EASIER for people to spend money they don’t have.
A spokesman says, quote, “Prom is a fun night for kids to get together and dance, but spending $300-plus on a proposal simply to ask your date is exorbitant.”
