The blizzard of 2025 was everything they warned us it would.
The National Weather Service promised us that this storm (named Winter Storm Blair) would bring significant snowfall to the entire midwest. They said it would start with light freezing rain and then switch over to snow for most of the day Sunday.
And they were right.
The City of Manhattan got it’s highest recorded snowfall in more than a hundred years. Schools, offices, and businesses all closed. Authorities strongly urged only absolutely necessary travel.
By Sunday evening the storm had moved east (good riddance, Blair!) and we all started digging out. And that’s when it happened; that quintessential midwest cooperative attitude. Neighbors helping neighbors shovel, salt, and push. Plows, city-owned and otherwise, clearing side streets. Countless snow blower owners offering assistance.
It’ll take a few days, but before you know it Winter Storm Blair will be a memory. All that will be left will be that community feeling to put a smile on your face.
I love the midwest!
