An eighth-grade student in Gresham, Oregon wore a T-shirt to school that included a design memorializing fallen soldiers and the words “Standing for those who stood for us.”The shirt — showing boots, a helmet and a gun — got him suspended.

Officials at the Middle School asked the kid to change his shirt or face suspension. He took the suspension.School staff called his dad to come pick him up.His dad said, “I’m proud of him. I would’ve done the same thing.” The boy’s brother is a Marine.Administrators said that an image of a gun is not appropriate in a school setting. The school dress code bars students from wearing any clothes promoting alcohol, drugs, tobacco or violence.
