There’s a headline I didn’t expect to see today.

Wallet Hub put out a ranking of the Best Places for Christmas, and Wichita came in ranked at 31. Atlanta, GA, was considered the best city to be in for the holiday.

As this is Wallet Hub, the rankings are basted on how much things cost. The categories took into account Traditions & Fun, Observance, Generosity and Shopping.

As a whole, Americans are projected to spend up to $859 BILLION over the holidays. If you want to save some money this Christmas, maybe look toward experiences over getting gifts.

“Start a family/friend tradition that will last the test of time versus spending money on a physical thing that will quickly fade in emotional and objective value,” Sarah E. Mittal, PH.D. and Assistant Professor of Marketing, Bill Munday School of Business, St. Edward’s University, said. “Research on the ‘experiential recommendation’ has shown us time and time again that experiences are less likely to be compared/devauled to others’ purchases. We get forward-looking savoring from them along with post-experience sharing and savoring (cherished memories).”

The top 10 cities for Christmas are:

  1. Atlanta, GA
  2. Orlando, FL
  3. Las Vegas, NV
  4. Pittburgh, PA
  5. San Francisco, CA
  6. Seattle, WA
  7. Los Angeles, CA
  8. Cincinnati, OH
  9. New York, NY
  10. Portland, OR

For funsies, here are the bottom 10 (Starting at 90):

  1. Aurora, CO
  2. Glendale, AZ
  3. Corpus Christi, TX
  4. Irving, TX
  5. Garland, TX
  6. Chula Vista, CA
  7. Laredo, TX
  8. Henderson, NV
  9. Hialeah, FL
  10. San Bernadino, CA
  11. North Las Vegas, NV

Kansas City clocked in at 68, for the record. St. Louis was 13, which, yet again, the Pro-St. Louis bias in theses lists has raised it’s ugly head.
