ABC RadioEven though Brett Eldredge had a hand in writing all five of his number ones, including his current chart topper, “Drunk on Your Love,” the consummate crooner confesses singing has always been his major motivation.

“It is so crazy. It’s overwhelming for me cause I moved to this town when I was still in college. I went to MTSU,” he says of the Murfreesoboro, Tennessee college on the outskirts of Nashville. “I didn’t know how to write a song. What I moved here to do is I moved here to be a big vocalist. I wanted to fight my way through the ranks — and not knowing how hard it was gonna be — all I wanted to do was sing. That’s all I cared about doing.”

So to be nominated for Male Vocalist of the Year at this Sunday’s ACMs, with the likes of Jason AldeanDierks BentleyEric Church and Chris Stapleton, means a great deal to him.

“To get this nomination was just one of the biggest points of my career. To get that nomination at this point in the game… saying I’m amongst these giant vocalists in our genre, and I get to be one of those guys: So it’s flattering and it also just reminds me go out there and keep writing songs that I can show my voice, ’cause that’s all I want to do, is belt ’em out! Sing along!” he adds enthusiastically.

Brett will be doing just that on the 51st ACM Awards, as they air live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
