Credit: Sarah DunnTom Hiddleston simply couldn’t stop singing like Hank Williams at the after-party for the premiere of the new biopic I Saw the Light in Nashville this weekend. After a planned set that started with “Hey Good Lookin’,” the British actor returned to the stage later in the night to sing more tunes by Luke the Drifter, even including one that didn’t make the film, the obscure “My Bucket’s Got a Hole in It.”
Even though the movie was shot predominantly in Shreveport, Louisiana, the star of Thor and The Avengers spent six weeks in Nashville immersing himself in country music with the film’s music producer, eighties hitmaker Rodney Crowell. Elizabeth Olsen sifted through Hank and Audrey Williams‘ personal effects in the archives of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum to prepare for her role as the icon’s first wife.
The movie, now set for release in March, focuses on the last six years of Hank’s life, paying close attention to the conflict between his mother and the women in his life. Hank Williams, Jr. is seen briefly in the film as a small child.
