Arista Nashville/RCA RecordsWith a breakthrough single that both topped the charts and got her a Grammy nomination, Cam is busy these days taking the next step — performing “Burning House” on her first major tour with Brad Paisley.
“I’m excited about the stages being bigger,” she reveals. “I’m excited to get this show bigger, because there’s a lot that the band and I want to do with this live show to make it a really cool experience. Like, you know, when you’re little and you put on plays for your parents? I’m been dreaming about this,” she giggles. “So I’m really excited for that!”
One thing she’s not particularly excited about is being out with country music’s most notorious prankster. Cam worries she’s not experienced enough to match wits with perpetual jokester Brad, but she does have a strategy she hopes will get her through.
“I’m nervous for getting pranked ’cause I’m the oldest of just two girls, so I don’t really get pranked. I’m either gullible or hurt, you know?” she says, worrying about her potential reaction. “I just don’t know how to respond. So I’m like, ‘Oh great, he’s gonna do this.’ So I’m gonna try to look up some pranks but I’m definitely not gonna draw first blood and hope that it just passes me by.”
Last weekend, Cam and her band checked out Graceland in Memphis in between stops in Arkansas and Mississippi. This week, the tour heads for the Northeast, with stops in Maine, New York and Connecticut. In May, Cam kicks off the Somewhere on a Beach tour with Dierks Bentley.
