Arista Nashville/RCA RecordsTuesday, Nashville’s music community celebrated the success of Cam‘s breakthrough hit, “Burning House,” with a party at BMI, just off Music Row. The singer, who’s quickly become known for her love of a certain shade of yellow, says she’s been overwhelmed by the universal appeal of a song that started with a dream she had about an old boyfriend.
“I know we all have this, right? Where it was your song when you had the worst breakup of your life, and you were in bed crying and you listened to it on repeat, you know on your — CD player, for me — or whatever, and it’s like, ‘This is the worst time of my life.’ Like those songs — ‘Burning House’ is that song for a bunch of people. So that is wild!” she reflects.
Having recently wrapped up her stint on Brad Paisley‘s Crushin’ It World Tour, Cam says she’s also been struck by all the personal stories fans come up and tell her about the song.
“A girl will say like, ‘Oh my gosh! My “Burning House” is here tonight. Like he’s over there.’ And she’ll like point across the club. And she’ll be like, ‘And he’s here with another girl.’ You know, I’m like, ‘Awww!’ And we’ll hug each other, you know. I think that’s the natural thing. Music is meant to be this connector and it allows people to voice their own stories through your song.”
Though she wouldn’t reveal many details about the shoot, next week, Cam turns her attention to filming the music video for her new single, “Mayday.”
