Image Courtesy CMACarrie Underwood joined Bruce Springsteen, Kanye West, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and U2‘s The Edge, Adam Clayton and Larry Mullen Jr. for a concert at New York’s Times Square Monday night to mark World AIDS Day.
Carrie performed her hits “Something in the Water” and “Change.”
Springsteen and Martin filled in for an ailing Bono. The U2 singer was forced to bow out of the event because of injuries he suffered last month in a bike accident in New York’s Central Park.
Former President Bill Clinton spoke before the concert and said he received an email from Bono telling him he had to attend the event. Clinton told the crowd that this year “for the first time ever, more people were put on life saving medicine than were diagnosed with AIDS.”
“We are going to win this fight,” Clinton added.
The concert was sponsored in part by (RED), the anti-AIDS organization co-founded by Bono.
The show was streamed live on YouTube and broadcast as part of ESPN’s Monday Night Countdown.
