ABC NewsLady Antebellum’s Charles Kelley may be going solo, but he wasn’t alone Tuesday night when he performed at Rolling Stone Country’s pre-CMA party.
At the event, the final number Charles performed from his upcoming solo EP The Driver was the title track, which on the EP features Eric Paslay and Dierks Bentley. Eric, a surprise guest, came onstage and joined Charles for the tune, which Eric co-wrote. Charles also performed a bunch of other songs from the EP, including his cover of Tom Petty‘s “Southern Accents” — which features guest vocals from Stevie Nicks — and “Lonely Girl,” written by Chris Stapleton. He also sang a cover of “Ophelia” by The Band, and the Lady A hits “Love Don’t Live Here Anymore” and “Need You Now.”
Charles kicks off his solo tour November 28 in Cleveland; the opening act will be Maren Morris, who also opened for Charles at the Rolling Stone Country event.
By the way, Charles reiterated to reporters again on Tuesday that Lady A is not breaking up; in fact, they’ve already started their next album. They’re up for Vocal Group of the Year at tonight’s CMA Awards, which air on ABC at 8 p.m. ET.
