Big Machine Label GroupJudging from his song choices on American Idol, you probably wouldn’t have predicted that season-15 winner Trent Harmon would pursue a career in country music. Not only did his roots in Amory, Mississippi, push him in that direction, he says the dedication of the country fans also played a part.

“Fans of country music support their artists, and they go to concerts, they buy albums, they go to festivals,” he points out. “I’m country! I mean if you go home with me — like you know that I’m country!”

Once Trent impressed Idol mentor and Big Machine Label president Scott Borchetta, it was only a matter of time before he released a single like “There’s a Girl.”

“I’ve always said that I can be a country artist. If the right doors open up, I can do it. And yeah, I’m ready to make a country album that’s gonna have a lot of Trent-isms in it, and we’re gonna find out what those are, as I found out what they were on the show.”

You can search for the first signs of Trent-isms in his debut music video, which was just released on Monday. You can check out the clip for “There’s a Girl” online.
