ABC/Image Group LASometimes the life of a country singer is hard. Arizona native and lifelong Cardinals fan Dierks Bentley won’t get to go see his team take on the Carolina Panthers Sunday in the NFC Championship game, because he has to work — on a beach, that is.
“I’ve been an Arizona Cardinals fan for a long, long time. I went to their first Monday night game back in, I think it was ’88 against the Cowboys,” he recalls. “It’s amazing they’ve gone this far. It’s great winning against the Packers. I got invited to go watch them play and Kevin Harvick, who’s a buddy of mine, the NASCAR driver, invited me to come out and I was like ‘Yes! I’ll be there!’ and then I realized I’ll be at Crash My Playa with Luke [Bryan]. It’s hard to get any sympathy — I’m gonna be on the beach with Luke!”
As it turns out, the five-day Mexican getaway vacation is the perfect place for Dierks to play his new single for the first time live for his fans.
“This morning I woke up thinking about ‘Somewhere on a Beach.’ You know it’s weird to release a beach song in January, but I’m already thinking about summertime. It’s freezing! I know the fans that are coming to this thing are going to have a great time,” he says. “The lineup is unbelievable. [Chris] Stapleton is there. Obviously Luke and Cole [Swindell], Brett Eldredge and us. So for fans that get a chance to go to Mexico, a killer resort, us country singers will be there. It’s gonna be fun for everyone. I’m pumped! I wish I’d thought of it first. I could’ve done, you know, Drunk on a Beach!” he jokes.
Even if you can’t make it to Mexico, you can check out Dierks and Luke’s next gig together. They’ll host the Academy of Country Music Awards this April in Las Vegas.
Dierks new album Black should be out around the time he kicks off his Somewhere on a Beach tour in May with Randy Houser and Cam.
