Capitol NashvilleDierks Bentley debuts the new music video for his top-20 hit “Somewhere on a Beach” Friday on Vevo. The “Drunk on a Plane” hitmaker says it took a lot of careful consideration to decide which track should be the lead single from his forthcoming album, BLACK.

“We really thought a lot about this first single. It was like a three-month ordeal going back and forth trying to figure out what it’s gonna be. And then one day, I just really came to peace with this idea of putting out a song that’s a breath of fresh air after serious songs like ‘Riser’ and ‘Say You Do.’ It’s like, let’s not be afraid to come out with a song that’s just fun.”

While much of the country is dealing with frigid winter temperatures, Dierks believes “Somewhere on a Beach” is the perfect diversion.

“This morning driving in here when it’s seven degrees and I have no heat in my truck and I’m holding on to the steering wheel with my thumb because it’s so cold — I want to be on a beach!” he laughs. “And I just feel like it’s a great first song to get the thing going and we’ve got several layers of the album to get to, but I feel like this is the right way to kick it off.”

So far, Dierks hasn’t revealed the official release date for BLACK, though he’s said he expects it will be out by the time he hits the road with Randy Houser and Cam in May.
