Ethan Miller/Getty Images for ACMDierks Bentley is taking a cinematic approach to the launch of his new album, Black.  He’s doing a short film series based on a number of the album’s songs.  The first film’s playing now on Rolling Stone Country.

According to the magazine, there will be four videos in all, which will add up to one storyline about a love triangle.  The first one, “I’ll Be the Moon,” is for Dierks’ duet with Maren Morris.  The clip shows a woman who’s conflicted over her boyfriend and her secret lover.  Dierks simply sings the song — professional actors play the roles.

In a statement, Dierks says, “‘I’ll Be The Moon’ is a pivotal part of the flow of this record and is where the storyline of the couple in this series begins. We first recorded it just me, but the song looks at a relationship from a different angle, where the girl is instigating the deceit. So, I felt like it needed a female voice, and I started to hear it more as a duet. I love the perspective Maren adds, there’s weight to her voice.”

Dierks tells Rolling Stone that with these films, he’s “trying to make Cliff Notes to the album and give people a little idea of what it’s about.”  Each song featured in the video series will be available at iTunes ahead of the May 27 release of Black.  Part two, for the song “What the Hell Did I Say,” arrives April 15.

Dierks co-hosts the ACM Awards this Sunday.
