ABC/Image Group LAThursday at midnight, Luke Bryan will welcome 2016 by performing on Dick Clark’s New Year’s RockinEve with Ryan Seacrest, along with other heavy hitters like Carrie Underwood, Jimmy Buffett and One Direction. But even though he has what’s arguably the most prestigious gig on the planet, Luke says his favorite New Year’s Eve will always be when he and his then-girlfriend Caroline rekindled their relationship after they met at Georgia Southern University.

“My best New Year’s Eve is definitely when my wife and I started back dating. We started back dating right before Christmas, and we went on a trip down to Florida and met some friends,” he recalls. “And her birthday is New Year’s Eve. We celebrated it that night. It was just a great night.”

Luke is set to sing a medley of his hits from Times Square in New York City on the last day of 2015. You can check out all the action starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.

This week, the CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year cracks the top ten for the first time with “Home Alone Tonight,” his duet with Karen Fairchild. The two will have the chance to sing it on the road, when Luke, Little Big Town and Dustin Lynch kick off the Kill the Lights tour February 16 in Evansville, Indiana.
