BMIMac Davis will be honored as this year’s BMI Icon at the 2015 BMI Country Awards in Nashville on November 3. The award is given “to songwriters who have had a unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers.”

Mac is best known for his hits “Baby Don’t Get Hooked on Me,” “Hooked on Music” and “Stop and Smell the Roses.” He has also written hits for Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Rascal Flatts. Mac also penned Elvis Presley‘s hits “In the Ghetto” and “A Little Less Conversation.” As a performer, Mac Davis has played showrooms from Las Vegas to Atlantic City. He’s also performed on Broadway as Will Rogers in The Will Rogers Follies.

Previous recipients of the BMI Icon award include Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Jr., Merle Haggard, Dolly Parton, Loretta Lynn and others.
