ABC/Image Group LATonight in New York City, four-time Grammy nominee Maren Morris kicks off her first-ever headlining trek with two sold-out shows at the Bowery Ballroom.

“The rehearsals are going great,” she says of the Hero Tour. “I’m excited to… have a longer set list and really play with lighting. I mean I’m getting into all these creative things I never really got to do before,” she adds.

Once the “80s Mercedes” hitmaker wraps her headlining gig in April, she’ll spend the summer opening Sam Hunt’s 15 in a 30 dates.

“I’ve been a fan of Sam’s since the beginning,” Maren recalls. “I think we both blend our love of country throughout our love of other genres in a really seamless way. And he just puts on a bada** show,” she quips.

In the end, Maren believes she and Sam share a certain innovative spirit that makes the tour a good fit.

“I just love people that blaze their own trail and don’t sound like a carbon copy of someone else. They really make it their own,” she says.

Sam and Maren also have at least one more thing in common. The “Body Like a Back Road” singer was nominated for the Best New Artist Grammy last year, and Maren is up for the award at this year’s ceremony later this month in Los Angeles.
