ABCJuliette Barnes turned back to booze and pills on Wednesday night’s Nashville, reeling from the news that Avery Barkley not only wants a divorce, but wants her to sever ties with their daughter. Her freak-out with a fan went viral, presenting a chance for Jeff Fordham to impress Luke Wheeler with his powers of damage control.

Rayna Jaymes struggled with her new artist Markus Keen, who she desperately needs to be Highway 65’s first big success. Though the former rock star repeatedly butted heads with his new label head, he eventually believes she’s trying to help him make the most authentic album he can.

After deciding not to let Luke Wheeler record his song, Will Lexington finally got the courage to perform for the first time since coming out of the closet.  But when a group of girls thrust a male friend to the front of the stage, his fears about being only perceived as a gay country singer are back at the forefront, throwing him back into self-doubt. In the end, his boyfriend Kevin decided he’s had it with Will’s inability to be okay with himself.

Scarlett O’Connor and Deacon Claybourne delayed their return to Nashville when they realized Beverly’s friends had planned a remembrance at the bar where she used to sing. Scarlett eventually sees that her career made her mother proud, and she needs to do the tour with Gunnar when she gets back to town.

The way Jeff managed Juliette’s bad behavior impressed Luke so much he gave him the C.E.O. job he wanted. Jeff asked Layla Grant to move in with him. But moments later, he followed a drunken Juliette to the top of the building, where she was about to commit suicide. Jeff managed to save Juliette, but in the process lost his own footing, apparently falling to his death.

ABC’s Nashville returns week after next, after taking November 4 off to make way for The 49th Annual CMA Awards.
