NBC/David LaChapelleWhen The Voice returns for its new season this fall, it’ll sport a new look. For the first time, not one but two of the coaches will be women — Alicia Keys and Miley Cyrus. Blake Shelton and Adam Levine, the only constants on the show for its entire run, will be back once again. Why do they keep returning? It’s all about the Benjamins.
Speaking to reporters at the Television Critics Association Press tour, NBC Entertainment chair Bob Greenblatt said of Blake and Adam, “They love doing the show, and they love the paycheck.” He added, “If I can compare it to a scripted show, you have your series regulars that you love… and then we have this revolving family. We think the heart of it is those two guys and their relationship.”
NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke adds that every time new people join the show, it has an entertaining effect on Blake and Adam. “It stirs up their bromance. It’s fun to watch,” says Salke.
As for Miley and Alicia, Greenblatt says he hopes that they’ll draw younger viewers to the new season of the show. And speaking of youth, Greenblatt also said the network hasn’t ruled out the idea of doing a kids’ version of The Voice, following the trend of shows like Master Chef Junior, Little Big Shots and So You Think You Can Dance: The Next Generation.
