Warner NashvilleEven though Dan+Shay are already making their way up the charts with their latest hit, “From the Ground Up,” it was Wednesday in Nashville before the duo found time to celebrate their first number one from back in December, “Nothin’ Like You.”
Dan Smyers revealed how the song changed not only his and musical partner Shay Mooney‘s career trajectories — but they were able to use the video to transform some other lives as well.
“The video is something that was a passion project for us. Animal rescue is super close to our hearts. And we were like, ‘Let’s do something crazy on this video.’ We got this idea. So we support animal rescue and we’re like, ‘We don’t want to do the traditional video that’s just verbatim.’ Actually it has kinda nothing to do with the song,” Dan chuckles. “We work with Proverbs 12:10 animal rescue in Nashville and it’s a great organization. It’s no kill, all foster based.”
In the end, thanks to the pair’s vision for the video, more than three dozen dogs found new homes.
“They basically brought 43 dogs to the video shoot. We ran around, played in the mud with them all day, which was very tiring. ‘Cause we’re getting chased by dogs wearing suit pants, which, those pants don’t have a lot of breathing room if you know what I mean,” Dan laughs. “But, we got 43 dogs adopted from that video and I think we raised a lot of awareness. We’ve had a lot of people tweeting at us, and mentioning it at shows and whatnot. It’s for a great cause and we got to play with dogs all day, so what’s better than that?”
Guests at the number one party went home with a souvenir light blue foam finger emblazoned with the duo’s logo and a large #1. You can see Dan+Shay performing this Friday morning on ABC’s Good Morning America.
