A boil water advisory has been issued until further notice for a portion of Manhattan’s public water supply system in Riley County.
The advisory affects customers living within the following area:
South Delaware Road on the eastern boundary
Stagg Hill Road at Rosencutter on the southern boundary
EJ Frick Drive at Amherst Avenue as well as Tamarak Drive at Arbor Drive on the western boundary.
Wildcat Creek at Seth Child Road, Poyntz Avenue at Delaware on the northern boundary.
Customers living within this area of town should
  • Flush water lines by letting the water run until it clears if tap water appears dirty.
  • Boil water for one minute prior to drinking or food preparation or use bottled water.
  • Dispose of ice cubes and do not use ice from a household automatic ice maker.
  • Disinfect dishes and other food contact surfaces by immersion for at least one minute in clean tap water that contains one teaspoon of unscented household bleach per gallon of water.
  • Water used for bathing does not generally need to be boiled. Supervision of children is necessary while bathing so that water is not ingested.

The boil water advisory is a result of two water main breaks early Tuesday in west Manhattan.

According to city officials the first break developed in the Stagg Hill area. Water will be off until further notice on Stagg Hill Road, from Galaxy west through Rosencutter, and from Fort Riley Blvd, south to the transfer station. Emergency repairs are being made on a water main break and service will be restored as quickly as possible, according to Public Works. The eastbound lane of Stagg Hill Road is closed through Sky-vue Lane as a result.

A second break developed near Manhattan High School, where the northbound lane of Westwood will be closed while repairs are made. Water is off on Westwood Road (the Poyntz Ave. curve) from Oak Street through approximately Sunset Ave.
