The Manhattan Area Technical College saw an 11% decrease in state and federal funding starting July 1.

“We were reduced about a million dollars out of a $9 million budget,” said James Genandt, the college’s president for the past decade. “That’s a hurt. I had to do a reduction in force with some staff.”

Genandt said MATC receives 35-40% of its funding from the state, with the remainder coming from tuition, fees and fundraising.
