Strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop late this afternoon as a cold front moves through the region.

According to the National Weather Service, storms are forecast to form between 4 and 6 p.m. and track south, exiting the area by around 9 p.m. Hazards include large hail up to golf ball size and damaging winds of 60 to 70 mph.

Residents are urged to have a plan and be prepared to act if severe storms threaten. Forecasters note that timing maps provide only a general sense of when storms could arrive and are not exact for specific locations.
