Reed & Elliott Jewelers, a local business on Poyntz Avenue, announced it will close at the end of the year after having been open in Manhattan since 1942.

Lee Nelson said Monday he and fellow co-owner Chuck Elliott will be closing their doors so they can retire.

Nelson said the business opened some time during World War II and has been operating in Manhattan ever since. The store is holding a going-out-of-business sale through Dec. 23 for all merchandise, display cases and fixtures.
