An 85-year-old Wamego man was killed in a head-on crash Saturday morning on U.S. 24 Highway in Shawnee County, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred just before 8 a.m. July 4 near mile marker 362, at Countryside Road.

Troopers said a Ford F-150, driven by Zachary Obrock, was traveling westbound on U.S. 24 when, for an unknown reason, it crossed the center line and collided head-on with an eastbound Honda Civic.

The driver of the Honda, Robert Leroy Kidd, 85, of Wamego, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The Kansas Highway Patrol reported Kidd was wearing a seat belt.

Obrock was transported to Stormont Vail Hospital with suspected serious injuries. Troopers said his seat belt use was unknown at the time of the crash.
