The Riley County Police Department will receive almost $20,000 from a federal program, to be spent on body-worn cameras for jail staff.
The U.S. Department of Justice on Wednesday announced RCPD is among nine jurisdictions in Kansas to receive money from the Edward Byrne memorial justice assistance grant (JAG) program. The program provides funding to support criminal justice and civil proceedings.
The DoJ said RCPD will receive $19,908 to pay for body worn cameras to be worn by jail employees. The cameras are intended to document interactions with inmates which will be reviewed later in the case of any alleged abuse of excessive force.
