Riley County has appointed Brittany Phillips as its next county clerk, filling the vacancy created by the retirement of longtime county clerk Rich Vargo.

The Riley County Republican Central Committee announced Phillips’ appointment Thursday. She will serve the remainder of Vargo’s term, which expires in 2028, and will begin her new role Dec. 1.

Phillips currently serves as Riley County’s budget and finance officer in the county clerk’s office. She oversees the county’s annual budget process and financial operations and works with county departments, elected officials and the Riley County Commission.
