A passerby helped rescue a person from the Blue River late Sunday before Manhattan firefighters searched the water for a possible second person.

According to Manhattan Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Ryan Almes, crews responded to the Blue River boat ramp for a water rescue. A passerby used a stick to help one person out of the river.

Firefighters received a report that another person might still be in the water and deployed two boats to search the river. Crews did not locate anyone or find signs of another person in the water.

The scene was turned over to the Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office.
