A former USD 383 paraprofessional, charged with multiple counts of sexual exploitation of a child, appeared for a status hearing Tuesday from his jail cell in Riley County.

Aaron Zachry, of Junction City, faces seven total counts after police earlier this month found sexual images of children on his phone. He was arrested June 4 at Northview Pool after a report of suspicious activity. Two of the seven alleged charges involve victims under the age of 14. He remains jailed on a $360,000 total bond.

Zachry’s attorney Barry Clark plans to file a motion for a bond reduction June 29 during a 1 p.m. setting with Judge William Malcolm. A preliminary hearing has yet to be scheduled.

During Tuesday’s hearing, the lead prosecutor in the case, Deputy Riley County Attorney Trinity Muth informed Clark that it may be best for the two to meet in private and then schedule a preliminary hearing date later.

“There may be additional stuff you’re going to be looking at pretty soon. It’s highly likely you’re going to see something additional or different,” Muth said.

Zachry worked as a special education paraprofessional at Northview Elementary from August 2018 to May 2021.

The school district is fully cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
