Advance voting for the 2021 general election will begin next week.
Advance voting in person and by mail officially begins October 13th, with the voter registration deadline on Oct. 12th. Local races include the race for Manhattan City Commission, of which nine candidates are running for three seats. The USD 383 school board has six candidates for three seats.
Riley County Clerk Rich Vargo explained the upcoming process to county commissioners on Monday.
Unlike last year, during the presidential election, Riley County will not be using the mail ballot drop off boxes. Vargo says those boxes take up a lot of additional resources, and the last general election only had a 22 percent participation rate.
The upcoming ballot will also have a special question for the county’s proposed .02 percent sales tax.
Ballots can also be dropped off at the Riley County Office Building next to the courthouse. Vargo says not all polling places from last year will be open since it is a smaller election. Voters will be notified if their polling place has changed.
