ABC/Image Group LA“Girl Like You” is Jason Aldean‘s twentieth chart-topping single, but even before it took its place in his collection of other hits, the Georgia native says he loved it.
“That was one of my favorite songs on the record,” he recalls. “When I gave the album to the label, I said, ‘Your first three singles are “You Make It Easy,” “Girl Like You,” and “Drowns the Whiskey.”‘”
“And then we ended up coming back and putting ‘Drowns the Whiskey’ second instead of third,” he explains. “But those were my first three picks for singles when I turned the record in.”
“I didn’t know what the fourth one was, and I still don’t,” the three-time ACM Entertainer of the Year admits.
Especially after a traditional country ballad like the Miranda Lambert collabo “Drowns the Whiskey,” Jason believes “Girl Like You” was tailor-made to remind fans of his harder rocking material.
“It’s got the rock edge to it in the choruses and stuff, which I love,” he points out. “And coming off of a song like ‘Drowns the Whiskey’ that’s a little more on the traditional side, I wanted to come out with something that, you know, is a little bit more the other spectrum of what we do, which is the rock side. So that one was perfect.”
As he tries to decide on the fourth single from Rearview Town, Jason does have a more pressing personal issue these days: His wife Brittany is expecting their second child together sometime this month.
