An incident in the 600 block of Highland Ridge had Riley County Police on alert Sunday. A suspicious package led to a bomb team response. According to the RCPD Facebook page, there ended up being no threat to the public.
RCPD received a fire alarm call from the apartment complex and as the Manhattan Fire Department was responding, dispatch received a call from a citizen stating they heard a gunshot.  Officers were dispatched as well and Once on scene, they cleared the apartment where the alarm originated from. As they did so, officers located a suspicious device and called in The RCPD Bomb Team.
The building was evacuated by officers, who also established a perimeter. Once the bomb team arrived on scene, they were able to determine the device was actually a realistic prop. While there is no danger to the public, the cause of the original alarm was determined to be a burst pipe, which required officers and Fire officials to remain on scene, and some displacement of those living in the apartment building.
