It’s been an incredible year for Chris Stapleton, and it looks like there’s no slowing him down in 2016. Perhaps the only way he could top his three surprise wins at the 2015 CMAs — for New Artist, Male Vocalist and Album — would be to walk away with the four Grammys he was nominated for on Monday.
Chris is up for the all-genre Album of the Year and Best Country Album for Traveller, Best Country Solo Performance for the album’s title track and Best Country Solo Performance. We’ll find out if he wins February 15 when the Grammys are handed out on CBS.
If you’re curious as to why he isn’t up for Best New Artist in the all-genre category, having just taken home the comparable CMA Award — it’s because he was previously nominated with bluegrass band The Steeldrivers. Sam Hunt, who just won the equivalent at the American Music Awards — is in the running.
With five sold-out dates already planned after the first of the year, the “Tennessee Whiskey” singer is adding two shows at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium in the days after the Grammys. Tickets for the February 18 and 19 performances go on sale this Friday. He’s also playing Music City’s free Bash on Broadway this New Year’s Eve.
Chris is currently enjoying his first official country hit, as his single “Nobody to Blame” cracks the top thirty.
