Country Music AssociationThe countdown is on to the 50th Annual CMA Awards! To mark half a century, the CMA is counting down to the November ceremony by producing a 50-part video series that chronicles five decades of country music’s most prestigious honor. Titled CMA Awards 50/50, the Country Music Association plans to release one segment each week until summer, with the frequency increasing as the awards draw closer.
The first episode, titled “Nothing Like the First Time,” looks back on four artists’ first appearance on the CMA Awards, including Chris Young’s 2011 performance of “Voices” at Bridgestone Arena and Trace Adkins’ 1996 take on “Every Light in the House Is On” at the Grand Ole Opry House.
In looking back at the clip of her then-15-year-old self performing her signature song “Delta Dawn,” Tanya Tucker was reminded of something. “I had forgotten that Johnny Cash had introduced me that night,” she admits. “So it was great to see, because I didn’t remember that he had introduced me. Of course, I was worried about what I was doing, you know!”
Little Big Town recalls a copious amount of fog and smoke during their 2006 delivery of “Bones”– and a pretty major case of the nerves. “Yeah, I remember thinking, ‘What will happen if I throw up?’ I was so nervous,” Karen Fairchild reminisces.
