Manhattan is not a sanctuary jurisdiction, city manager Danielle Dulin said in a letter responding to a federal prosecutor last week.
The correspondence follows an incident December 4 in which ICE agents were present at Manhattan Municipal Court to take into custody a woman who was there related to a DUI and other charges.
The judge, Sarah Barr, reportedly told the agents she didn’t think they should be there, which spurred Ryan Kriegshauer, U.S. attorney for the District of Kansas, to write city officials Dec. 18 asking for proof that they weren’t obstructing the federal agents.
