CMAWhen Cole Swindell takes the stage tonight to kick off his Down Home Tour at New York City’s Playstation Theater, he says you can bet he’ll be showing off what he’s learned on his previous gigs opening for Luke Bryan and Jason Aldean.
“They’re two of the biggest superstars in our format and I’ve gotten a chance to tour with ’em and learn from both of ’em and you know, I’ve watched Luke, I’ve watched Jason,” he says. And one of the main things he’s learned is how important it is to keep the hits coming.
“You’ve got to keep their attention for 90 minutes. That’s a long time. That’s longer than I’m used to being up there, so I’ve gotta keep releasing great songs, I know that, because that’s the reason they’re up there. They’re playing hit after hit after hit and I’m, you know, playing my couple and trying to get everybody warmed up. They’ve taught me, be an entertainer and release great songs!”
With three number ones already under his belt — “Chillin’ It,” “Hope You Get Lonely Tonight,” and “Ain’t Worth the Whiskey”– as well as his current single “Let Me See Ya Girl” at number two, Cole is well on his way. He says he’s also looking forward to debuting new material on this tour from his Down Home Sessions II album, which was just released last week. In all, Cole will play 20 dates over the next 5 weeks, before wrapping up just before Christmas in Greenville, South Carolina.
