200 Riley County employees participated in the 10th year of training on Columbus Day at the Farm Bureau building on Seth Child in Manhattan. Human Resource Manager Cindy Volanti tells K-MAN “it’s a good way to intermingle with the other departments and put a face with a name.”
Commission Chair Ben Wilson says it helps get county employees “on the same page.” Morning sessions dealt with K-PERS, retirement, power line safety with a presentation by Westar, and a keynote speech by Johnson County Manager Hannes Zacharias on leadership versus management, trust, employee culture and his family’s emigration from Germany. Afternoon break-out sessions were on workplace violence, customer service, and retirement and financial planning.
