Riley County commissioners approved a bid recommendation for standby power equipment for the Public Works department Monday morning.
Commissioners awarded the contract for the project to Economy Electric, Inc., of Manhattan in the amount of $59,160.
“We felt very good about that because it’s a local firm, also,” commission chairman Ron Wells said.
The contractor has indicated he will begin construction early in January with a completion date estimated for March.
In other items, commissioners had suggestions for a video production company the county has contracted to market the region.
Commissioners went through a draft script for CGI Communications, Inc., which is based out of New York.
“We had some concerns,” Wells said. “We felt that it was a little bit generic — probably would have applied to other counties and other cities. We think our area here is a little bit special.”
County treasurer Shilo Heger also issued a reminder that the first half of tax payments are due.
