Matt Jones/CosmopolitanIn the December issue of Cosmopolitan, covergirl Carrie Underwood opens up about everything from her onstage alter ego, to the difficulties women face in country music, to the state of her marriage.

”When I go to vote for the Country Music Awards, I have to write in names,” says the host of the genre’s biggest awards show. “I can think of, like, three who are really active. Women have to work harder to get half the recognition. I am one of the lucky ones.”

Carrie admits being one of the lucky ones involves being a bit of a chameleon when she steps onto the platform.  “When I am onstage, I am not Carrie: I am Carrie Underwood,” she teases, playing out some of the scenarios in her biggest hits. “Obviously, I would never run off to Vegas and get drunk and marry a guy or trash some guy’s car. But everybody has had somebody who’s cheated on them or some jerk they dated.”

But even in the midst of a year that’s seen everyone from Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert to Reba battling marriage-ending troubles, the “Smoke Break” hitmaker says you don’t need to worry about her union to pro hockey player Mike Fisher

“Everyone is getting divorced. They’re dropping like flies! But we are good,” she says happily. “It helped that we were both established before we were married. Neither one of us could be like, ‘I didn’t know it would be like this!’”

You can expect more insight from Carrie when Cosmopolitan’s final issue of 2015 comes out November 10.
