Warner Music Nashville Today, former rodeo cowboy and prison guard Cody Johnson releases his major label debut, Ain’t Nothin’ to It, as he simultaneously enjoys his first top-25 hit, “On My Way to You.”

The Lone Star State native has already placed two independent albums in the top ten of Billboard‘s country albums chart, and become the only indie artist to ever sell out NRG Stadium during RodeoHouston.

Now, Johnson’s forging ahead in a new partnership with Warner Nashville, without losing any of his authenticity.

“To see… that the independent music that I’ve spent ten years of my life crafting and honing with my fans on the road — and really putting in the time and the real work — to see that one of the largest labels in Nashville is gonna get behind it, and I’m not having to change anything, that speaks to where we’re at at this day and time in country music,” Cody tells ABC Radio.

“That the door is actually open for a traditional, cowboy-hat country artist to come in here,” he adds.  “There’s no formula to us, they’re just behind us and we’re getting to be exactly who I am — and that’s an amazing thing for a guy like me.”

With a multi-million-dollar career already under his belt, Cody says conquering new horizons is just icing on the cake.

“You know, I was… perfectly happy,” he says candidly. “This record was completely done before we merged with Warner Nashville. So if I’m Texas at that point, technically this is a Texas record.”

Cody continues, “You know, I’m one of those guys that if it all went away tomorrow, I’d be so thankful. I’ve got a wife and two daughters that really mean more to me than any of this.”
