ABC/Mark LevineWhat does Dan + Shay’s “Tequila” have in common with “He Stopped Loving Her Today” by George JonesWillie Nelson’s “Always on My Mind,” and “On the Other Hand” by Randy Travis?

Well, the answer is simple: All those songs have been nominated twice for CMA Song of the Year.

Dan Smyers could take home an extra trophy in November, since the Song of the Year award goes to the writer or writers, and he co-wrote “Tequila.”  This year, Dan + Shay are also up for Vocal Duo, Single of the Year for “Speechless,” and Album of the Year for their latest, self-titled effort.

“This album will always hold extra special meaning to us,” Dan reflects. “It’s amazing to have ‘Speechless,’ a song that is so important to us both, recognized in the Single of the Year category.”

Dan + Shay wrote “Speechless” about seeing their wives in their wedding dresses for the first time.

“And for ‘Tequila,’” he continues, “which kicked off this crazy ride, to be nominated again for Song — it’s just incredible.”

Meanwhile, the third single from the Dan + Shay album, “All to Myself,” is number one in Canada this week, after topping the chart in the U.S. last week.
