ABC/Image Group LA When the new season of American Idol premieres Sunday on ABC, Luke Bryan won’t be watching — not because he doesn’t want to, but because he won’t be able to.

Sunday night, instead of sitting in front of his TV, Luke will be 30,000 feet above the Earth, in a plane headed Down Under.

“I’m doing my first Australian tour,” he explains, “and I will be doing a 19-hour flight. But when I get to Australia, we’re gonna try to figure out a way [to watch] if we can’t have it saved at our hotel room.”

Luke tells ABC Radio he’s anxious to see how the first episode turned out.

“You know, you never know how it’s going to edit, and I pray that in the edits, they make me look somehow intellectual,” he jokes.

The four-time Entertainer of the Year takes his What Makes You Country Tour to Sydney and Melbourne, Australia next week, and also plays the CMC Rocks festival as well. He returns to the States for two dates in Honolulu, Hawaii on March 23 and 24.

You can catch Luke’s American Idol debut Sunday, starting at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
